An Exhibition of Art work by Rosalind Walker
and Heather Niven
Kirkham Priory Sat 29th & Sun 30th September
2007 2-6pm
We live in a fast paced world of increasing technology, fast cars, processed
shrink wrapped convenience foods, telecommunications, and
TV where you can ‘drive-through’ almost everything.
In a world such as this, it can be easy to lose sight of
the natural world and the beauty and power it possesses.
In days gone by the natural rhythms around us provided deeply
spiritual as well as practical significance, dictating when
crops were planted, and when food was harvested, where someone
was born and then later buried. Nature was both revered
and feared with few underestimating its power and most feeling
a sense of awe in its presence.
Natural rhythms are all around us, from the drop of water
in a puddle, to the great swell of the ocean; from the changing
seasons to the passing of a day; from birth to death. We
are bound to these natural rhythms in our very existence
and yet it is easy to lose sight of their influence over
us in this modern world.
Natural Rhythms is the title for the latest
exhibition of art work by Rosalind Walker and Heather Niven
which takes place in Kirkham on the 29th and 30th September.
It explores the spiritual quality of nature and its interpretation
over the ages. The show is a celebration of the power and
beauty of nature in its many guises, providing an energetic
sometimes explosive, visual feast of painting, photography,
prints and cards.
Both Rosalind and Heather employ many different
materials in their work to represent the timeless vitality
of the world, using vibrant colour and patterns to capture
its beauty. The exhibition contains works of bronze aged cup
and ring markings, bridleways and meadows, standing stones,
waterfalls, rainbows, fossils and even a green man, as well
much more (around 50 new pieces in fact ). Something to fire
the imagination of most!
